Bream Fishing Spots in NSW
By Bob Ives
The southeaster part of Australia is notorious for great fishing; all
kinds of great fishing. And NSW (New South Whales) is no exception. It's
located just north of Victoria and boasts great angling for Salmon,
tailor, whiting and flathead. But that's not all. One of the favorites
is Australian bream.
There certainly no shortage of places to fish in NSW if you're
fishing for bream. A good place to start would be Ulladulla area, which
is a very long stretch of rocky beach and includes Bannister Head,
Burrill Lake and Tabourie Lake. The bream fishing is great all along
that coastline.
Sydney, Australia, the capital of New South Whales, offers great bream
fishing in the Sydney Harbour, claiming to have some big ones around the
rocky washes and deep water structure, particularly those in the more
open parts such as Old Mans Hat, Middle Head and Sow and Pigs reef.
Other areas around Sydney boasting some nice bream catches include
Pittwater, Botany Bay,
If you are a tourist, you might find delight in visiting the Sapphire
Coast to do a little bream fishing. The Sapphire Coast, actually called
the Bega Valley Shire, is runs the south-eastern coastline of NSW from
Bermagui south to Victoria. Sport fishing is a big part of the tourist
attraction there and beach fishing for bream is very popular around the
northern end of Tathra beach, as well as Bournda Beach to the south and
Middle Beach to the north. Rock fishing is also popular in this area on
the Bega River. Also along the Sapphire Coast is Merimbula and Pambula
where the local reefs hold deep sea bream for those who love fishing
along the bottom.
In northern New South Whales you will find Ballina, a coastal
township which has a number of good fishing spots along the Richmond
River. Among other species, bream are found around the breakwalls, rocks
and shores around the town. Shaws Bay is a good spot, but further
upstream at Burns Point you'll find some of the best bream fishing
anywhere. Also check out Sharps Beach, Flat Rock headland and Black
Head. Head further south to South Ballina Beach for some good beach
fishing.
Port Stephens is another good place to go for Australian bream
fishing. It is a large harbour Northeast of Sydney which is shallow and
sandy, but holds a lot of different species of fish. Good spots in this
area would be the entrance to the Myall River and the sand flats in the
main channel. Good sized bream are caught here, as well as off the deep
water jetty at Hawks Nest. Tomaree Head and Stockton Beach are also
worthy of the attention of your fishing rod.
These certainly aren't the only great bream fishing locations in NSW, but
they will sure keep you busy for awhile. Don't forget, Australian bream
are as much fun to eat as they are to catch.
